Troon's Open
Welcome to Troon's Open - this digital content project aimed at connecting the town's businesses and community groups with Troon's visitors and residents.
The QR Code you have scanned will go fully live on 23rd May but you can view the Mobile APP now by clicking the link below on your phone
TroonsOpen.com may have been launched in a year when the world's greatest golf tournament returns to the town but it is not intended to focus solely on the Open Championship but instead build a platform for businesses in the town to reinforce that Troon's Open 52 weeks a year!
For sure the site will have a focus in July that aims to increase awareness of what the town can offer to those visiting Ayrshire for The Open Championship and it will highlight initiatives and offers and be the gateway site for the new Out of Bounds Festival that is being run across the week of the golf.
The phase running up to The Open Championship includes
From the recent Business Meetings with the Council and The R&A, it is pretty clear that the key message businesses wish to be reinforcing that Troon IS Open and that it is going to be a vibrant centre to visit for hospitality, retail and events.
The soft launch Website is up and running on www.TroonsOpen.com and business entries will go live on it as they are received
The Mobile App will go live towards the end of May and will be promoted widely through paid advertising, social media, business advertising and mailshots to our own tiket holders for events. We are looking for businesses in the town to look to adopting the QR Code as their premier in- store and online call to action for their clients.
A Facebook group has been set up for the businesses to allow information from South Ayrshire Council, the R&A and other groups to be shared between those trading in the town. You can join here to share information on opening hours during the event and sharing of offers and ideas.
The emphasis MUST be on providing compelling reasons to drive increased visitors not only from the golf but the rest of the catchment area to spend time in the town during a unique week for the county and to this end promote
The website www.troonsopen.com is part of a wider Ayrshire Connect digital project that powers a number of local business, community and destination websites and that means that a single business entry can often be found on multiple websites - examples are shown below.
There is no direct charge to be on the partner sites although there is a very small one off nset up fee to get your details up loaded into the database - this includes uploading and editing,
Each business entry will feature on the following websites and mobile web apps for the remainder of 2024 at no charge at all
The project is not includes not only Troon's Open website but also a progressive mobile application that allows those in the town to easily search and find local businesses even flagging up real time offers.
This app will outlast any temporary event and can continue to provide a valuable resource for businesses, community groups, tourists and locals alike throughout the year. The Mobile App is live and can be viewed on mobile devices through the following links
The websites and apps have all been built in Ayrshire and the set up and content has been created with no financial assistance and whilst it would be great to offer everything for free it's not possible. However the only charge for 2024 is a £50 plus VAT set up fee to get your business onto the database and shared in the above sites. A simple one off online payment will activate the process.
The set up cost is reduced to £30 plus VAT for all businesses signing up before the end of May 2024 - sign up using the payment link below and we will activate your entry normally within 72 hours. The process uses Go Cardless payments.
We are planning a focussed paid advertising campaign backed up with the targeted local and visitor direct marketing that we need to drive forward at this side for the live music events being held during the week at Troon Concert Hall. There is a limited budget to spend on paid advertising, supported by South Ayrshire Council, and this will focus on the following potential areas with the Troon's Open brnad, web address and App featured at all times:

The key to creating a positive brand experience is quite often simple business involvement and "buy in".
There appeared to be considerable comfort with the concept of Troon's Open at the two previous meetings and it was a simple message clearly understood.
However it was only a small number of businesses engaged and rolling it out is another matter. However to achieve maximum impact we are proposing the following.
"Troon's Open - Come on in" is intended to capture not only the marketing message for The Open visitor but also locals alike. It can and should have longevity beyond The Open itself and extend to day to day marketing and for other incoming events throughout the year. The use of the "brand" is intended to be free to use for those subscribing for inclusion for The Open.
The text can be overlaid with permission across multiple graphic messages as exampled below. The brand support would in the short term consist of:
The digital project and the Out of Bounds event have been launched by Plan B, the team behind the WinterStorm Rock Festival and South Beach Sessions.
As well as promoting live music Plan B have been involved in innumerable projects marketing Ayrshire over the past thirty years and therefore this project is launched with a degree of local knowledge and understanding of the visitor and local business needs.
Importantly, however Troon's Open is intended to be an open, inclusive and complementary platform for the use and promotion of any business or organisation with Troon at it's heart. It is very much a not for profit venture and is intended to help try to bridge any number of gaps in communications and replace none
Businesses, community groups and events will have access to managing their own content. News and information will be provided by multiple open sources and their is no political or social agenda. It is first and foremost a communications platform - sometimes business- to-business, sometimes business-to-consumer - and can and should be used to promote other channels, business groups and public sector lead projects.
