Music Festival Unveiled for week of Open Championship

07/02/2024

The first event listings and tickets for an all-new music and entertainments festival to run during the week of the 152nd Open Championship at Troon in Ayrshire have been unveiled. Featuring a series of live music, comedy and more, Out of Bounds Festival will feature some of the best of Scottish artists including The Skids, Tide Lines, Eddi Reader, Clann an Drumma, Blue Rose Code and a lot more to be revealed over the coming weeks.

The event is being promoted by Ayrshire based Plan B Events, the team behind the successful classic rock festival WinterStorm which attracts bands and music fans from across the world every November, and is being developed in association with South Ayrshire Council.

The core events will take place in Troon Concert Hall over two stages and also offer a dedicated area showcasing the best of Scotland’s Food and Drink. The main stage has a capacity of 850 and the smaller intimate acoustic stage overlooks the sea and will feature a range of genres including comedy.

As well as the Concert Hall, Plan B Events are already planning how Out of Bounds can widen into other venues in the town as well as street entertainment.

Organiser Ian McCaig, explained the thinking behind it all,

“The idea for putting on live acts during The Open is one we’ve been planning for a long while and when we were able to secure the venue and working in association with South Ayrshire Council it started coming together. It will be more like a small festival with tickets for each act sold separately rather than a “festival ticket” – this was deliberate as it means that the audiences can drift in and out of the venue after a single event and spend more time enjoying the unique atmosphere The Open brings to the streets of Troon.”

The aim was to feature the beat of Scottish acts from a wide range of genres and so far, the organisers are pleased with the diversity and advance ticket sales are going really well across the board. This is part of a wider “Troon IS Open” campaign that will offer local businesses the opportunity to use the digital platforms to build footfall..

Ian McCaig continues,

“The Open brings massive economic benefits both during and after the event and we want businesses in Troon Town Centre to benefit as well. .Out of Bounds is an opportunity to encourage more people into the town centre during The Open. The website TroonsOpen.com will be a platform for local businesses to feature themselves and their services during the event and beyond.”

The event is being organised and promoted in association with South Ayrshire Council and their subsidising of the venue hire is helping ensure that all of the tickets are under £30 and available to as many local people as possible and not just The Open attendees.

Councillor Martin Dowey, Leader of South Ayrshire Council said:

“The Open Championship at Royal Troon this July is a golden opportunity for South Ayrshire and we want to maximise the benefits for accommodation providers, traders and business. The Out of Bounds Festival will tap into the unique atmosphere of The Open, and offer something a little different to locals and visitors.”

Councillor Alec Clark, Tourism, Culture and Rural Affairs Portfolio Holder said:

We’re keen to support as many events as we can. The Out of Bounds Festival promises to be a great accompaniment to The Open. As well as some of the best bands around, the festival will showcase some fantastic local produce. I have no doubt the festival will appeal to golfers and non-golfers and I wish the organisers every success.”

Tickets for the week of events are now on sale through the website www.troonsopen.com and more information for businesses is available on the same site.

The Background

Out of Bounds will be a five day long, diverse celebration of live music and entertainment coinciding with the return of the world’s greatest golf event, The Open Championship, returning to the Ayrshire coastal town. The programme has been curated to be attractive to visitor and local alike and we're sure that every event will be a celebration of international dimensions.

Taking place from Wednesday 17th to Sunday 21st July 2024 the core events will be hosted in Troon Concert Hall with two live stages and a food and drink area celebrating the best of Scottish produce.

Each day will offer up to four events across the two venues ranging from traditional Scottish folk all the way through to 1970's punk icons The Skids and even better news is that the organisers are trying to cap every ticket to under £30 to keep it affordable.

Located in the centre of the town The Concert Hall venue is situated less than two kilometres from The Open Championship venue at Royal Troon and half that to the railway station.

Troon Concert Hall

With a capacity of 850 mixed seated/standing or 600 seated this old school venue with balcony offers a superb acoustic experience as well as a great layout. There will be up to three shows a day in the main hall featuring a diverse range of live music and entertainment from across multiple genres.

Sunset Sessions Room

The Sunset Sessions will take place in the upstairs room with magnificent views over the coastline and while the sunset will happen every night we can't necessarily ensure you'll see it! But if you do...

The Sunset Sessions will be fully licensed seated events and will feature a mix of acoustic live music sets and comedy with after show entertainment too.

The Walker Hall

With bars and catering the hall will offer the very best of Scottish beers and spirits and some great Scottish street food produced from Ayrshire's larder.

In Association with South Ayrshire Council

Out of Bounds is being supported by South Ayrshire Council as part of the Destination South Ayrshire programme
